Translation Coordinator
This translation coordinator position is a great opportunity to enter the world of translation. It is ideal for people who want to establish long-lasting relations with their customers, would enjoy working in an open-minded and relaxed atmosphere where the opinion of employees is taken into account, and are eager to take on new challenges with a proactive attitude.
This position relies on a coordinator’s capacity to manage projects, make decisions, and oversee the work of skilled translators.
We also welcome applications from candidates who are interested in translation, who like languages or aim to become translators.
Plus, considering the vast amount of translation projects involving English, this position will give you many an opportunity to flex your linguistic muscles on a regular basis.
Finally, candidates who are so inclined may also ask to switch to a different position as a linguist further down the line.
■Employment Status:
Full-time position
■Job Outline:
You will be tasked with various responsibilities related to the management of entire translation projects, from the initial discussion with clients and the assignment of linguists—based on their skills and the content that needs to be translated—to the final delivery of the projects, invoicing along with quality control, project scheduling and cost management.
More specifically, you will be asked to handle the following:
- Assigning projects and coordinating the workflow of translators, DTP operators, and other human resources.
- Managing and controlling quality, schedules, and costs.
- Drawing up estimates, preparing invoices, guidelines, and other documents relevant to a project.
- Evaluating English translations and translators
- Other tasks related to translation projects.
Please note that we outsource the translation work, and that you will be in contact with freelance translators.
Applicants with little to no experience in translation coordination will start as assistants, and gradually learn about the industry and the job at hand.
It may take as little as 3 to 6 months to become a full-fledged translation coordinator.
■Eligibility Requirements:
- Native English speaker
- Good communication skills for smooth discussions with clients and translators, both with phone calls and e-mails

■Required Skills:
- Computer skills (Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- IT skills in order to master each tool necessary to your work
You will need to fully utilize several tools in the course of your work (computer-assisted translation tools such as Phrase, Trados, etc.)
■Useful Skills:
- Experience working as a translator.
- University course or study in a subject related to translation.
- Experience working in a translation company.
- Experience with desktop publishing tools, InDesign, Illustrator, and in creating printed materials is highly appreciated.

■Salary:
Annual salary: 3,250,000 to 4,000,000 yen (with an annual salary change and semiannual bonuses)
- The salary will be determined based on the candidate’s experience and skill.
