Description

GPlusMedia — the company behind GaijinPot (gaijinpot.com), Japan Today (japantoday.com) and Savvy Tokyo (savvytokyo.com) — is looking for an accomplished content creator to take over the position of Editor of Savvy Tokyo. This is a one-year contract starting in May 2019 (flexible) with the opportunity to extend.

Savvy Tokyo is a lifestyle web magazine for international women and their families living in Japan, and even more specifically, in the wider Kanto area. Launched in 2013 as a website targeting predominantly expat women, today it has grown to reach an audience made up of women of all backgrounds and demographics. Our readership has tripled in the past two years, meaning that now more than ever we have a responsibility to provide our readers with correct, essential, entertaining and meaningful content. Our articles cover all aspects of life in Japan, including culture, lifestyle, health and beauty, food and drinks, recipes, life in Japan with kids, relationships, life hacks, out-and-about information and more.

As Editor of Savvy Tokyo, you will be in charge of running the website day-to-day, as well as spearheading projects and opportunities for the site’s continued growth as part of the GPlus brand family, as well as the English media industry in Japan as a whole.

Responsibilities

*Produce strategic, SEO-friendly, high-quality editorial content that fits Savvy Tokyo’s audience
*Manage Savvy Tokyo’s monthly content schedule to make sure that we are publishing a minimum of five to six articles per week in a balanced way that reflects on all our categories: food, lifestyle, families, careers, health and beauty, fashion
*Edit writers’ articles
*Review writers’ pitches, give directions that will help them narrow down their pitch and produce higher quality content
*Develop new ideas and features for the site that can help it grow and be monetized
*Work closely with the sales team on advertorials and potential sales leads
*Manage Savvy Tokyo’s social media
*Write original articles, including conducting interviews, reflecting on seasonal topics and trending topics in and around Tokyo
*Manage Savvy Tokyo’s newsletter once a week
*Manage the website’s SEO in conjunction with the marketing team
*Create new campaigns, reader giveaways, seasonal contests, etc with the help of the marketing team
*Commission articles to already existing contributors
*Work closely with the design team to help elevate Savvy Tokyo’s visual appeal (strive to produce better lead and in-text images, assign photoshop work, etc).
*Select impactful visuals for each article that will help the article perform well
*Recruit new contributors
*Attend press events as a representative of the brand and build good connections with clients and PR companies
*Support all GPlus Media websites and projects whenever needed. This could include occasionally writing, proofreading, editing or attending events for GaijinPot, Japan Today, or for external client-related websites or print projects.

Qualifications, experience

*Proven experience in writing, editing and managing a content-based website.
*Japanese language skills preferred (for research purposes, client services, etc)
*Target and goal orientated
*Team player with great communication skills and a great sense of responsibility

Tools experience

*WordPress or other CMS system
*Knowledge of photo-editing software
*Knowledge of analytics software (such as Google Analytics)
*Mac OS operating systems
