JOB DESCRIPTION

Destination Asia Japan are looking for an experienced contracting manager to join their team. This role entails negotiating with hotel and suppliers to ensure that Destination Asia has the most competitive contracts in the market. You will also be responsible for the yearly production of the tariffs. This is a very hands on role in a challenging and competitive environment - the role needs lots of energy and enthusiasm and a "can do" attitude.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Negotiating and contracting of rates, special offers, allocation, overrides, terms & conditions with suppliers and ensuring the best available contracts
• Identifying and contracting new properties and suppliers
• Preparing the Annual Tariff, calculate net cost, selling price to minimize any variance in costing and pricing for hotels, transfers, packages and excursions.
• Analysing the product of our competitors in order to ensure DAJ is ahead of the pack
• Assisting in resolving complaints and administrative issues of our suppliers and Hotels.
• Coordinating with the ODL team with loading of contracts
• Represent the company to create brand awareness and promote DAJ’s presence as a leading DMC in the market with hotels and suppliers
• Review and research to keep up with the new trends in the tourism industry
• Keeping abreast of new hotel developments in Japan
• Keeping abreast of new suppliers throughout Japan
• Work with Leisure, Cruise and MICE departments to identify key areas to improve contracting
• Conduct domestic trips to visit suppliers to negotiate rates and make contracts

SKILLS

• Excellent professional written and verbal communication and negotiation skills
• High level of computer literacy in Microsoft Office
• Thorough knowledge of Japanese inbound tourism industry
• Existing relationships with Japanese suppliers
• Good interpersonal skill with ability to work well with all levels of managements, department heads and support staff
• Ability to delegate and prioritise work
• High level English
• Fluent formal Japanese

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Degree qualification; Tertiary management qualifications preferred
• 2 years’ experience working for a DMC or Travel Agent in Japan
• Extensive experience in contracting with hotels and suppliers
• Experience in strategic planning and execution
• Knowledge of the workings of a DMC
• Eligible for a work visa in Japan
