Description

The Eiken Foundation of Japan seeks experienced writers/editors for a full-time position developing content for the EIKEN Tests in Practical English Proficiency.

Working conditions:
1) Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. plus overtime as needed; occasional weekends.
2) One-year renewable contract.
3) Position to start in October or November of 2017 (negotiable).

Duties:
1) Write, edit, review, and proofread content for the EIKEN reading, listening, speaking, and writing tests according to detailed test specifications.
2) Take part in intensive item-development meetings where content submitted by subcontracted item writers is evaluated and revised.
3) Assign and manage subcontracted work, evaluating the performance of item writers and providing feedback and further training.
4) Train, manage, and evaluate examiners and raters for the speaking and writing tests.
5) Rate responses from the speaking and writing tests.
6) Assist at EIKEN and TEAP test sites as an administrator or examiner.
7) Report to senior editors and section managers.
8) Liaise and consult with advisors and language-testing scholars.
9) Take part in academic conferences and promotional events.
10) Maintain courteous and professional communication with colleagues in both English and Japanese.

The successful candidate will work as part of a team of committed, professional editors of various nationalities, gain expertise in language testing, further develop his/her writing and editing skills, and directly contribute to an exciting project that is attracting national attention.

Qualifications:
1) Native English speaker.
2) Bachelor's degree or higher; TESOL certification preferred.
3) Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
4) Experience writing or editing materials for publication; test-development experience strongly preferred.
5) Experience teaching English at a Japanese junior and/or senior high school.
6) Advanced Japanese language skills (JLPT Level N2 or higher).
7) Able to work as part of a team in a Japanese office environment.
8) Reside within commuting distance of central Tokyo.
9) Strong desire to contribute to English language education in Japan; interest or background in language testing or applied linguistics a plus.

Compensation:
Monthly salary of 300,000 yen, two annual bonuses, paid annual vacation leave, overtime pay, commuting allowance, and other benefits.

Notes:
