Interfaces with: Division Principal, Student Services Team, Grade Level Teachers, Parents, and Students


Position Overview:
The Learning Support Assistant (LSA) plays a critical role in supporting students with diverse learning needs, aligning their practices with the Mission, Vision, and Learning Principles of Canadian Academy. The LSA works primarily with students, who are on their caseload, based on their individual learning plans, while also providing support to the broader classroom as needed. The LSA is expected to collaborate effectively with teachers and staff to ensure a high-quality, inclusive educational experience for all students.


Key Responsibilities:

Individualized Student Support:
Assist the classroom teacher in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students assigned to their caseload, ensuring tailored support and differentiated instruction to meet individual learning needs.

Collaboration with Teachers:
Support teachers in differentiating tasks and assessments to cater to the varied learning styles and abilities of students. Provide feedback and insights on student progress to the classroom teacher and learning support case manager.

Record Keeping & Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of support provided to students, tracking progress, and facilitating communication with teachers, case managers, and parents regarding student outcomes.

Team Participation:
Attend and contribute to grade-level or team meetings, advocating for the needs of students on their caseload. Collaborate with the Student Services Team in developing and refining IEPs.

Targeted Instruction:
Provide additional support outside of scheduled class time as needed, offering targeted instruction or working with students on specific tasks related to their learning goals.

Professional Development & Faculty Meetings:
Participate in faculty meetings and ongoing professional development, contributing to the broader educational community at Canadian Academy.

Supervision & Additional Support:
Assist with supervision duties and/or field trips as requested by the Principal and provide additional support to students or staff when required.


Desired Qualifications:

Experience & Training:
Experience working with students in a school environment, particularly with students who have diverse learning needs. Certification or formal training in education or a related field is preferred.

Collaboration Skills:
Ability to work effectively with teachers, staff and students, fostering positive relationships within the school community.

Adaptability & Resilience:
Demonstrates flexibility and resilience in responding to unexpected changes or new challenges in the educational setting.

Communication Skills:
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and professionally to leadership, faculty, and students.

Organizational Skills:
Ability to maintain detailed and accurate records of student progress and interventions.
